postpartum doula bag for the curious

postpartum doula bag, christiansburg_va_ postpartum doula

postpartum doula bags: i carry two bags to visit my fourth trimester clients: one for teaching and education and one filled with helpful tools for the visit.

my postpartum bag is lightweight, large, and wide open for easy access. it is filled with foursmaller bags organized inside.

a tiny postpartum bag

for technical gear like my phone charger and soft lens cloth to assure great phone photos and to clean my glasses if needed.

a small note-taking doula bag

a note-taking bag with a small journal, pencil, and a place to gather receipts when grocery shopping is needed. i keep a record of what i do each visit, baby notes, what food i make, when the baby sleeps and eats and diaper changes, play times, etc. i bring a small cookbook of favorite recipes for my clients. and last, i include a favorite children’s book in case the siblings want a story. i keep a client folder and also some printed pages on storing breast milk, etc.

my doula lunch bag

my lunch bag usually includes a cold lunch, ready to eat. i often do not have time to heat something up, so i prepare a big salad or a rice bowl or a good sandwich. it is also filled with healthy snacks. sometimes, i am baby holding and have only one free hand to eat with! haha

doula bag for personal items

i have a bag for personal items such as a change of clothes in case i am going somewhere after my shift or i need a clean shirt, a couple of bandaids, breath mints, chap stick, and a travel tooth brush with tooth paste.

a separate teaching bag with props

i keep the largest bag in the car and it’s ready for education purposes. it includes my crocheted boobie for teaching about breastfeeding and a good latch looks like. that way i don’t have to poke and prod my own breast! i have a baby doll that i use to show breastfeeding positions and they can mirror me when showing the different positions. i include a solly or moby wrap in case the baby is fussy and needs to be held.

if you are interested in some of my favorite recipes i make for clients, look here. these are snickers dates and they are delicious.

i also offer virtual support if we don’t live close enough for a visit. contact me and let’s set up a time to chat.

what’s in my postpartum bag?
