because baby holding is my favorite thing to do and new moms need help from a postpartum doula in the 4th trimester.
postpartum doula care is about holding space for new moms and babies during the mom’s recovery after birth. i have been researching and i am learning that in our middle tennessee area surrounding nashville, there are no full-time postpartum doulas and the need is great for family support after the arrival of a new baby. with parents living away from extended family, there is little help, especially during this time of limited travel. and you all know how i love holding babies….

why i became a postpartum doula
during 2019-2020, i had the opportunity to take some doula training. this education allowed me into the hospitals with my birth clients as their doula and i brought my camera along. well, i enjoyed the doula job so much that i decided to pursue it full time. i love the idea of helping new moms enjoy their postpartum weeks and bond with their new baby and begin to grow into this new family unit.
how i use my new doula skills
supporting families with a new baby, i will be encouraging them, educating, and listening. i will make home visits, as a postpartum doula, and i will be cheering parents on after the birth of their baby. spending time in the comfort of their own home will help me decide how best to help each new family. the needs will be different for each one. some moms have no support during these challenging days of little sleep while getting to know their little one. i hope to be there and offer help that will benefit the new family. i am also offering virtual visits.
what fourth trimester topics i focus on
i will offer newborn care, assist with any breastfeeding issues, and make good food for mom’s recovery after the birth. there will be lots of time to process the birth together and talk about postpartum depression signs/symptoms.
where i will share this educational doula information
i plan to share all things postpartum, newborn care, infant feeding, recipes and a few stories about myself here.
